Cute Movie (UK dub!)

As a film, Arrietty is OK. Stunning visuals typical of Ghibli, a nice musical score, and it's certainly whimsical. The story is a bit dull unfortunately. I love seeing all the little gadgets that make up Arrietty's family home and how they were "borrowed" from human civilization. The real treasure here is that this release DOES contain the UK dub, but the US dub cast is listed in the product description which is confusing. From my experience fresh from watching the film, this is both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, the novelty of Tom Holland voicing an anime character before his big break is quite charming. On the other hand, his character in particular sounded very muffled while watching the film. I could hear the rest of the cast fine, but his voice was harder for my ears to pick up, especially during one scene where he is eating dinner. The rest of the cast is excellent, especially Arrietty's voice. I'll have to get a copy of the US dub now so I can compare performances. When it comes to the packaging, I have to take off a star for the look of the Steelbook. The back, inside art spread, disc art and spine all are fine. The image on the front of the Steelbook is one of the most unflattering looks for Arrietty in the entire film. Something about the way her face is drawn here seems off-model. It is a screengrab from the movie, but again it's the only scene where she looks like this, and only for a split second so I have to wonder why this image was chosen for the front of the box. They should have used a screenshot of Sho and Arrietty from their conversation in the garden. Overall if you're looking for a way to watch the UK dub, this is an excellent way to do so.
