Nothing Is True

In 2007, Ubisoft released the first entry in the Assassin’s Creed franchise. The game put players in control of Altaïr, a hooded Assassin, tasking them with eliminating nine Templars. Since the first game, there have been many more releases.

Throughout the course of the series, the Assassin–Templar war takes centre stage — the Assassins seek freedom, whereas the Templars desire control. This conflict rages over the course of millennia, taking players to different historical time periods using the Animus, such as (but not limited to) the Crusades, the Renaissance, the American Revolution, the Industrial Revolution, the Viking era, and Ancient Egypt. In these games, players take control of different characters and interact with various influential figures.

Due to its popularity, the Assassin’s Creed franchise has branched out to other forms of media, including novels, comic books, and films. A 2016 live-action film starred Michael Fassbender as Callum Lynch and Aguilar de Nerha.
