Welcome To Neverland

Created by author and playwright J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan (otherwise known as Peter And Wendy or The Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up) originated as a 1904 play and a 1911 novel — this followed the eponymous character’s first appearance in The Little White Bird (1902), another of Barrie’s works.

The story centers around Peter, a young boy who doesn’t age, as he encounters Wendy Darling and her brothers, Michael and John. Wendy helps to reattach his shadow, which he lost while eavesdropping on bedtime stories outside their Bloomsbury house, and he invites the siblings to visit Neverland in return. They do so by using Peter’s ability to fly; however, their landing doesn’t go as smoothly. Wendy is injured when a canon knocks them out of the sky, and the Lost Boys (Peter’s gang of abandoned children) build her a house so that she can recuperate. Over time, Peter takes the Darling children on various adventures involving pirates, tribal princesses, mermaids, fairies (such as the famous Tinkerbell), and other fantastical discoveries.

Throughout the years, the tale of Peter Pan has expanded. It is now recognized as a multi-media franchise comprising various films and television series. The 1953 animated adaptation by Disney is perhaps the most famous example, but multiple live-action adaptations have also been made. In 2003, director P.J. Hogan released his interpretation of Barrie’s seminal work, a movie that starred Jeremy Sumpter (Peter Pan) and Rachel Hurd-Wood (Wendy Darling).
