Anyone Can Cook

Produced by Pixar Animation Studios, Ratatouille was released in 2007. The film, which was directed by Brad Bird, centers on an anthropomorphic rat called Remy (voiced by Patton Oswalt), who has an extraordinary gift for taste and smell. Idolising the chef Auguste Gusteau (Brad Garrett), he dreams of putting his gift to good use in a professional kitchen. One day, while scavenging for culinary ingredients, he becomes separated from his clan — which includes his father, Django (Brian Dennehy), and brother, Émile (Peter Sohn) — and finds himself atop the Parisian restaurant Gusteau’s. Remy soon spots Alfredo Linguini (Lou Romano), a garbage boy, trying to salvage a soup that he ruined, so the food-obsessed rat steps in to help.

Despite being reprimanded by Skinner (Ian Holm), the restaurant’s current owner, Alfredo is given the opportunity to continue preparing food when Colette Tatou (Janeane Garofalo) reminds the former sous-chef of Gusteau’s motto: “Anyone can cook.” Of course, this is not the case. Remy, having revealed that he can understand Alfredo, steps in to help. By pulling on the amateur chef’s hair, he is capable of controlling his movements and creating quality food. This attracts the attention of the esteemed food critic Anton Ego (Peter O'Toole), whose unkind comments about Gusteau’s food inadvertently caused his premature death.

After Ratatouille was released, it received generally favourable reviews. The film was also nominated for multiple awards, one of which was the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature (which it won). To this day, it remains one of the most popular animated movies created by Pixar.
